A must-see symbol near Madrid
Situated in Castilla y León, just an hour from Madrid, Segovia is an exceptional city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its Roman aqueduct, built in the 1st century, is one of the best preserved in the world and is the symbol of the city. But Segovia also boasts an impressive Gothic cathedral and an Alcázar that inspired Walt Disney to create Snow White Castle.
Why visit?
The town offers an incredible blend of cultures: Roman, medieval and Renaissance. Take a stroll through its narrow streets and you'll discover a unique architectural heritage, as well as an unmissable gastronomy, including the famous roast suckling pig (cochinillo asado).
A brief history and anecdotes
The Segovia aqueduct, with its 167 granite arches, is a masterpiece of Roman engineering that carried water for almost 2,000 years. The Alcázar, built in the 12th century, served as a royal residence and military fortress. Anecdote: legend has it that the aqueduct was built in one night by the devil, in exchange for the soul of a young girl…
