VISIT THE MADRID RÍO PARK
A transformative urban project
The Madrid Río Park was inaugurated in 2011, after the M-30, which ran alongside the Manzanares river, was buried. It is a linear park of more than 10 km that crosses the capital and links numerous districts. Thanks to this project, Madrid has rediscovered its river and turned it into a space for living, leisure and nature.
Why visit?
This modern park is ideal for walking and cycling. There are cycle paths, sports facilities, spectacular children's play areas, picnic areas and terraces. Several pedestrian bridges, including the spectacular spiral metal Arganzuela footbridge, have become symbols of contemporary Madrid.
A brief history and anecdotes
The banks of the Manzanares used to be unattractive, lined with busy roads. Incidentally, over 30,000 trees were planted to create this new urban green lung. Today, Madrid Río is one of the most popular spots for Madrid families.
