VISIT THE THYSSEN-BORNEMISZA MUSEUM

A must-see museum in the Golden Triangle
Housed in the Palacio de Villahermosa, the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum is an ideal complement to the Prado and Reina Sofía collections. Where the Prado focuses on the classical masters and the Reina Sofía on modern Spanish art, the Thyssen offers a complete panorama ranging from the Flemish primitives to the avant-gardes of the 20th century.

Why visit?
The museum displays over 1,000 works from the Thyssen family collection. It features rare works that neither the Prado nor the Reina Sofía offer: medieval Italian paintings, French Impressionism, Fauvism, German Expressionism and American Pop Art. Monet, Van Gogh, Kandinsky, Hopper, Rothko… they're all represented here.

A brief history and anecdotes
The collection was assembled by Baron Hans Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza and sold to the Spanish state in 1993. Anecdote: Carmen Cervera, the Baron's wife, added her own collection, enriching the museum with contemporary and Impressionist works.
