Mercado de San Miguel

VISIT THE MERCADO DE SAN MIGUEL

A historic market
Built in 1916, the Mercado de San Miguel is one of the few iron and glass markets in Madrid. Restored in 2009, it has become a modern gastronomic market while retaining its original architectural charm.

Why visit?
It's a must for gourmets. There are more than 30 stands offering fresh produce, traditional tapas and modern creations: Iberian ham, seafood, Spanish cheeses, paella, pastries and wines from all regions.

A brief history and anecdotes
The market almost disappeared in the 1990s, but was saved by an ambitious restoration that has made it a symbol of Madrid's gastronomic revival. Anecdote: its iron architecture is one of the last still visible in Madrid's historic centre.
