VISIT THE MUSEUM OF AMERICA

A museum unique in Europe
Opened in 1965, the Museo de América houses one of the most comprehensive collections devoted to pre-Columbian and colonial cultures. Its exhibitions cover a broad spectrum: archaeology, ethnography, sacred art and everyday objects.

Why visit?
The museum offers a fascinating immersion in the cultural diversity of the American continent. Among the major pieces: the famous Codex Trocortesianomayan statues, Aztec artefacts, gold ornaments and ancient maps illustrate how the world was seen after the discovery of the New World.

A brief history and anecdotes
The collections originally came from the Spanish expeditions to America and were assembled in various palaces before finding their place in this museum. Fun fact: the museum houses one of the finest collections of pre-Columbian gold coins in Europe.
