VISIT CAIXAFORUM MADRID
A unique cultural centre
Located on the Paseo del Prado, CaixaForum Madrid is a museum and cultural space inaugurated in 2008 by the "la Caixa" Foundation. The building, a former power station dating from the early 20th century, has been transformed by architects Herzog & de Meuron into a spectacular modern space, with a suspended façade and an impressive vertical garden.
Why visit?
The CaixaForum offers temporary exhibitions of ancient, modern and contemporary art, concerts, conferences and workshops. The architecture itself is well worth a visit, with its futuristic volumes and forecourt dominated by the green wall designed by Patrick Blanc, made up of over 15,000 plants.
A brief history and anecdotes
The Mediodía power station has been restored to become this innovative cultural centre. Anecdote: the building seems to float above the ground, thanks to the removal of its visible foundations, creating a spectacular visual effect. The vertical garden, one of the first of its kind in Spain, has become a Madrid icon.
