VISIT THE PLAZA DE TOROS DE LAS VENTAS
An emblematic monument in Madrid
Located in the Salamanca district, the Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas is the third largest bullring in the world, with a capacity of almost 24,000 spectators. A veritable temple to bullfighting, it is also a historic and architectural landmark, a symbol of 20th-century Spain.
Why visit?
Even for those not interested in bullfighting, Las Ventas remains an impressive site to discover. The neo-Mudéjar architecture, with its horseshoe arches and colourful mosaics, makes it a unique masterpiece. Today, the arena hosts not only bullfights, but also concerts, shows and cultural events.
A brief history and anecdotes
The first bullfight was held here in 1931. Since then, the greatest bullfighters in history have fought here. Anecdote: the arena is nicknamed the "Cathedral of Bullfighting", and those who triumph there exit through the famous "Gate of Triumphs" (Puerta Grande), an honour reserved for the greatest.
