VISIT THE PLAZA DE ESPAÑA

A monumental square
The Plaza de España is one of Madrid's largest and most emblematic squares. Surrounded by imposing buildings such as the Torre de Madrid and the Edificio España, it offers a contrast between modern architecture and classical elegance. Its centre is occupied by a large pedestrian area, recently renovated, which invites you to stroll and relax.

Why visit?
It's the place to be if you want to understand modern Madrid. The square links the Gran Vía to the Royal Palace and is an ideal starting point for exploring the city centre. It is also a meeting place, with its gardens, benches and lively atmosphere.

A brief history and anecdotes
The square was laid out in the mid-twentieth century as part of the city's urban expansion. Anecdote: at its centre stands the Monument to Cervantes, surrounded by statues of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza, one of the most photographed images of Madrid.
