Casa de Campo

DISCOVER THE CASA DE CAMPO

A royal estate turned park
Created as a hunting ground for royalty in the 16th century under Philip II, the Casa de Campo was opened to the public in 1931. At over 1,700 hectares, it is five times the size of the Bois de Boulogne in Paris and almost seven times the size of Central Park in New York.

Why visit?
Casa de Campo is the ideal place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city centre. There is a large lake for boating, paths for walking or cycling, and several family attractions such as the Madrid Zoo Aquarium and the amusement park. The cable car (Teleférico de Madrid) offers breathtaking views over the park and the city.

A brief history and anecdotes
For centuries, this park was reserved for hunting and leisure activities for the royal court. Anecdote: in the twentieth century, it was used as a battlefield during the Spanish Civil War, and some areas still bear historical traces of this past.
