DISCOVER THE CHAMBERÍ DISTRICT

An authentic Madrid neighbourhood
Located to the north of the historic city centre, Chamberí is an elegant district with a mix of 19th-century residential buildings, lively little squares and original museums. It is one of Madrid's favourite neighbourhoods for its friendly, family atmosphere.

Why visit?
Chamberí is not a tourist hotspot, but that's precisely what makes it so charming. There are traditional cafés, authentic tapas bars, local markets and surprising museums, such as the ghost metro station Andén 0.

A brief history and anecdotes
Chamberí owes its name to a former French military barracks established in the 19th century by soldiers from Chambéry (Savoie). Anecdote: the ghostly Chamberí station, closed in 1966, has been restored and turned into a museum, allowing visitors to relive the atmosphere of the Madrid metro in the 1920s.
