Perched on its hilltop, Montmartre retains a unique charm that evokes a real village in the heart of the capital. Its cobbled streets, picturesque houses and artistic atmosphere make it one of the most visited districts in Paris.

Montmartre is the symbol of Parisian bohemia. Picasso, Modigliani and Van Gogh all lived and worked here. The district also offers magnificent views over Paris from the Sacré-Coeur square.
A brief history and anecdotes
Until it became part of Paris in 1860, Montmartre was an independent village renowned for its mills and vineyards. In the early XXᵉ century, it became the centre of Parisian artistic life, attracting painters, poets and musicians. The Clos Montmartre vineyard can still be found here today.
