VISIT THE LOUVRE MUSEUM

An essential symbol of Paris

A former royal palace turned into the world's largest art museum, the Louvre is a veritable cultural icon. Located in the heart of Paris, it houses over 35,000 works spanning several millennia, from Antiquity to the art of the 19th century.

Why visit?

It's a unique experience that allows you to admire some of the world's most famous works, such as the Mona Lisa, the Venus de Milo and the Raft of the Medusa. The museum is also an architectural masterpiece, combining the ancient palace with the modernity of the glass pyramid.

A brief history and anecdotes

The Louvre was originally a medieval fortress built in the 12th century, before becoming a royal residence and then a museum in 1793. The pyramid, the work of architect Ieoh Ming Pei, was inaugurated in 1989 and provoked heated debate before becoming one of the museum's symbols.
