The Sainte-Chapelle

VISIT THE SAINTE-CHAPELLE

An essential symbol of Paris

Nestling in the heart of the Ile de la Cité, the Sainte-Chapelle is one of the jewels of radiant Gothic art. Built in the 13th century to house the relics of the Passion of Christ, it impresses with its stained glass windows of striking beauty and height.

Why visit?

It's a unique visual experience. The 15 monumental glass panels filter light through a palette of vibrant colours, immersing visitors in a timeless atmosphere. Each panel illustrates a biblical scene, creating a harmonious and spectacular whole.

A brief history and anecdotes

Built in just seven years during the reign of Saint Louis, the chapel was designed to house the Crown of Thorns and other precious relics. It miraculously survived the French Revolution, despite being stripped of its treasures. Restored in the 19th century, it remains one of the most admired monuments in Paris.
