An essential symbol of Paris

The largest square in Paris, Place de la Concorde links the Champs-Élysées to the Tuileries Gardens in a monumental setting. With its obelisk, fountains, statues and unobstructed view of the capital's most beautiful thoroughfares, it is an emblematic thoroughfare steeped in history.

Why visit?

It's a spectacular open-air venue. It offers unique views of the Arc de Triomphe, the Eiffel Tower, the National Assembly and the Louvre. Its Luxor obelisk, over 3,000 years old, catches the eye in a setting worthy of the world's greatest capitals.

A brief history and anecdotes

Created in the 18th century under Louis XV, it became infamous during the French Revolution as the Place de la Révolution, where Louis XVI, Marie-Antoinette and many others were guillotined. The obelisk was donated by Egypt to France in 1831 and installed in 1836. It is now one of the oldest monuments in Paris.
