VISIT THE AVENUE DES CHAMPS-ÉLYSÉES
An essential symbol of Paris
Known the world over as "the most beautiful avenue in the world", the Champs-Élysées avenue links the Place de la Concorde to the Arc de Triomphe over a distance of almost two kilometres. It is an emblematic place where history, culture, prestigious shops and popular events come together.
Why visit?
The Champs-Élysées is much more than just an avenue: it is home to luxury boutiques, cinemas, famous restaurants and a unique atmosphere. It is also the scene of major events, such as the military parade on 14 July and the arrival of the Tour de France.
A brief history and anecdotes
Laid out in the 17th century by André Le Nôtre as an extension of the Tuileries gardens, the avenue quickly became a favourite haunt of the aristocracy. Its name, inspired by Greek mythology, evokes the Champs Élysées, the abode of virtuous souls. Today, it is one of the busiest thoroughfares in Paris, with almost 300,000 visitors a day.
